Several days prior to Memorial Day, 2001, the gravesite of Richard Chapman, at Chapman Cemetery was still intact. Chapman's grave which dates back to Revolutionary War time, was enclosed by a very ornate wrought iron fence with a gate. When the firing squad paid honor to veterans at Chapman Cemetery on Memorial Day, one of the cemetery's trustees among those attending the service, noticed the fence was missing. Upon further inspection, tire tracks were found near the grave, which is located at the extreme west edge of the cemetery. The same trustee had made a routine check of the cemetery three days prior the services and Chapman's grave was intact.
